abstractConfusion, increasingly long opening hours, capricious patients. These seem to be permanent fixtures in surgery life, as described by GPs themselves. Many of them complain they are overwhelmed by patients who make more and more demands, want to undergo pointless clinical tests and take lots of medicine. GPs find themselves forced to make more non-diagnoses than diagnoses, and also have to carry out repetitive, automatic tasks for much of the time.
In online forums and other virtual meeting places, some doctors even suggest imposing charges to discourage visits to the GP, and limiting the hours spent on visits to the surgery. Meanwhile, other suggest that their colleagues should form an association and acquire all the IT and nursing resources they can to allow them to increase the time they spend on people who are really sick. |
