abstractPharmaceutical samples left by reps on doctors’ desks may influence their prescriptions. There was never much doubt about this, but further confirmation now comes from a survey recently published in the Journal of Medical Ethics. The doctors interviewed replied that they felt it appropriate to receive samples and other complementary items from reps, even though they realise this attitude could influence their prescribing practice.
