abstractCreating order: this is the first step needed to prevent the financial collapse of a healthcare system. This is why, in many countries, various models of “clinical priority” for the healthcare system are being tested. In Italy, the Raggruppamenti di attesa omogenei (Standardized Waiting Lists) model is being applied. It involves all those who are part of the process of providing a specialist service: the family doctor, the booking service (CUP) and the specialist. The model is based on identifying categories for access to outpatient specialist services; these allow the prescribing doctor to establish from the outset the length of wait considered adequate for the specific patient.
This organisational strategy is aimed at making it easier to manage a system as complex as the healthcare system, by also using so-called “facilitation” management techniques. The aim is to guarantee the ongoing improvement of the quality of services offered, and make waiting times adequate to the clinical needs of citizens. |
